About The Founder
Jeremy Meekins, Founder of SDX
As a visionary, Jeremy Meekins saw the opportunities that existed in his hometown of Vicksburg, Mississippi (“the River City”) to help those who experienced childhood trauma and adult redemption. As an adolescent, Meekins participated in youth sports and was a well-known local talent. Upon graduation, Meekins attended Jackson State University where he earned a Bachelor of Criminal Justice degree. He later pursued and obtained a Master of Business Administration degree from Belhaven University.
One of the first events he hosted to shine a positive light on the adolescent community was teen parties. The vision behind hosting teen parties was to decrease the crime rate among local juveniles while creating a sense of escape from the taxing realities of unlawful acts happening around them each day. Although he wanted to plan this event for a good cause, it did require much strategic planning to convey the right message and engage the appropriate individuals. He connected with many in the community such as his childhood friend Kenny Green and the Deputy Police Chief at the time, Eric Paymon. They teamed up to find a safe venue, sponsors, and restaurants to support these parties. Planning included meeting with some members of the Vicksburg-Warren School Board to understand their concerns about the youth population and how we could creatively address these concerns. From this, the group presented their vision and mission statement to these Board members and quickly realized that their goals aligned: “leadership, service, and education” for the children of Vicksburg, Mississippi was the top priority. These parties resulted in reduced juvenile offenses and an increase in classroom behavioral management.
